The Scottish Rite Foundation of Omaha
Since our very beginnings in the 1870s, Omaha Scottish Rite Masons have served the community through our philanthropies. In 1921, the Scottish Rite Welfare Association was formed to provide loans to young men and women pursuing higher education. In 1972, the Scottish Rite Foundation of Omaha was formed, consolidating various philanthropies. The Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) with the mission of helping "young people to talk who could not speak, to write who are not literate and to assist them in becoming part of the community."
Our primary philanthropy is the RiteCare Speech and Language Clinic, with services provided through the UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute and our Speech-Language Pathologists. Cutting edge services are provided to children, helping children through evaluations and screenings, individual therapy, a preschool group, parent training programs, augmentative and alternative communication specialists, and specialty services.
It is our belief that:
Every child should be able to communicate independently;
Team collaboration between families, community partners, and health professionals is key;
Family/Child preferences and values, along with best practice evidence, guides effective treatment choices.
The Foundation endeavors to provide scholarships to assist in educating those who will provide service through leadership for the future. Each year, 14 merit and need-based scholarships are provided to tomorrow's leaders through the University of Nebraska at Omaha. As one student recently told us,
"This scholarship has helped give my dreams wings, and I will forever be thankful for that."
Additional charities the Foundation annually supports include:
Masonic-Eastern Star Home for Children – Fremont
Masonic Home - Plattsmouth
Nebraska Masonic Youth Foundation
DeMolay, Jobs Daughters, Rainbow
Omaha Home for Boys
American Legion Boys State
Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership
Scottish Rite Foundation of Nebraska
Reimbursement for Omaha Valley’s share of RiteCare Clinicians salary and fringe benefits
