So many Lodges go dark during the summer, holding a meeting in May and then again in September. The momentum and enthusiasm built up during the Spring is lost, and the Lodge has to start over again in the Fall. The Scottish Rite and the Omaha Area and Masters and Wardens Club decided to revive a past tradition which had gone by the wayside, which would provide members family-friendly events on the calendar during the summer. In past years, an All-Masonic Day at Rosenblatt Stadium was held, with tailgating in the parking lot before a game. This year, a tailgate was held at Werner Park in Papillion, followed by the Stormchasers ballgame.
More than fifty Omaha-area Masons and their families came out for burgers, brats, and hotdogs grilled by the Culinary Masters and enjoyed fellowship and fun at Werner Park, and then stayed for the ball game. The Omaha Storm Chasers beat the Colorado Sky Sox, 6 – 4.
John Maxell, 33°, General Secretary for the Scottish Rite and Secretary for the Omaha Area Masters & Wardens Club, has said that OAM&W Club will continue a tradition of hosting events for all Omaha Masons each year. “Our goal is to create a culture of engaged members,” John said. “When members feel engaged in Masonry, they want to participate in their Lodge and in the Scottish Rite. Our Craft is all the stronger for it! It’s a win-win for everybody.”
