Ill. Bro. Sederstrom was elected Sovereign Grand Inspector General (SGIG) in Nebraska at the 2009 Supreme Council Biennial Session. He is preceded by only five men who held the title of SGIG in Nebraska since 1900. They are Ill. Bros. Henry Alverson, 33° (who served as SGIG in both Iowa and Nebraska in 1915), Frank Cargill Patton, 33° (1917-1950), Joseph Seacrest, 33° (1951-1971), Herbert Ronin, 33° (1973-1990) and Warren D. Lichty, 33° (1991-2007). The gaps in between indicate these men were Deputies during that time.

Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Nebraska

Chuck Sederstrom joined the Scottish Rite in 1980, serving as an officer for many years. He was coroneted with his 33° in 1997.

With the retirement of Ill. Brother Warren "Duke" Lichty in 2006, Brother Sederstrom was appointed Deputy to the Supreme Council by Grand Commander Ronald A. Seale, 33°. In 2009, Bro. Sederstrom was elected Sovereign Grand Inspector General (SGIG) in Nebraska and a member of the Scottish Rite Supreme Council.  Since then, he established an Orient Council made up of Personal Representatives, Valley Secretaries and a representative appointed by the Venerable Master of Perfection from each Valley who meet quarterly, either in person or via teleconference.  They discuss Valley activities and opportunities to help Valleys with membership and other programs.  Ill. Bro. Sederstrom makes these meetings enjoyable and asks the Valley leaders for input of how we could do things better.  He had an Orient website developed to keep track of projects going on in each Valley, broadcast email news articles and maintain a database of Orient members’ emails so everyone can be aware of current events.

He has asked each Valley to review the Bylaws of their Boards, Lodges and Foundations, since many have not been updated in years. He asked that they be brought up-to-date.  The first change was the Scottish Rite Foundation of Nebraska. 

The Nebraska RiteCare Clinics, with locations in Hastings, Lincoln and Omaha are the main focus of the Nebraska Foundation and letters of thanks from grateful parents made everyone realize that this program needed to be expanded.  Nebraska is the second state in the Southern Jurisdiction of Scottish Rite to hire a Development person.  In 2009-2010, Ben Harvey, 33° began building awareness of Nebraska's Scottish Rite philanthropies. Since 2011, Micah Evans, 33° has served as Orient Development Director, bringing his fundraising and development experience to raise awareness of our RiteCare program across the state.

In 2007, the Supreme Council asked Ill. Brother Sederstrom to host a dinner and auction in the Orient as a fundraiser for both Orient philanthropies and the House of the Temple Foundation. Since then, over $100,000 has been raised in these special events.  They are a lot of work to setup but they turn out to be fun and give the Scottish Rite an opportunity to introduce non-members to our RiteCare program and to the fraternity.

In 2011, Chuck recognized a need for services in western Nebraska, where many parents faced the challenge of traveling great distances for services. In cooperation with the University of Nebraska at Kearney Communication department, a telepractice clinic was established which can provide services to any Nebraska family through a computer camera or even an iPad or tablet device. The UNK Clinic serves children across the state through the telemedicine technologies, and the Valley of Alliance offers a satellite clinic for any parent who wants to use the Valley's computer and camera.

Most recently, Chuck has worked with the Clinics to develop a statewide approach to therapy and services, encouraging RiteCare Clinicians to collaborate and share specialties. Since 2015, Clinicians and Scottish Rite Masons meet annually to share information and cooperate on ways to improve services to Nebraska's children who need speech and language therapy.

A little about his background, Bro. Chuck was born in Deadwood, South Dakota.  He attended Black Hills State College and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota and received his Juris Doctorate degree.  He began practice in 1968 in Omaha, Nebraska with Donald H. Erickson; and they began the law firm of Erickson & Sederstrom.   Bro. Sederstrom’s area of specialization is in Corporate Law with a particular reference on Health Law.  He was formerly Senior Vice President of Legal, Compliance and Legislative Services to Alegent Creighton Health, which is the largest nongovernmental employer in the state of Nebraska and the largest hospital in the state of Nebraska with 10 hospitals, 450 employed physicians, and over 100 separate points of entry into the health system.

Bro. Sederstrom was the Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection in the Omaha Valley and has been active in Masonic bodies over the course of the past twenty-five years.  He is a member of Mizpah Lodge, Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and Tangier Shrine.  He served as the Personal Representative of the Sovereign Grand Inspector General of Nebraska, Ill. Bro. Warren D. Lichty, for several years and was a member of the Cathedral Board of Omaha which oversees the operation of the Omaha Scottish Rite Masonic Center.

Over the course of the past thirty years, he has been involved with the Salvation Army having served on the local Omaha Board and for the past fifteen years served on the Advisory Board of the National Salvation Army.  In addition, he was formerly Chairman of the Combined Health Agencies of America.  Chuck has been a very active member and leader in many legal and civic organizations, including American Diabetes Association, American Lung Association, Arthritis Foundation, Boy Scouts of America, Combined Health Agencies Drive of Nebraska, Goodwill Industries, United Way, Rotary International, Chamber of Commerce and the Omaha Home for Boys. Chuck was President of the Omaha Bar Association in 1984 – 1985.
