Fred was raised in 1966, joining Excelsior Lodge #259 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was not active for a few years, but got back involved in about 2002 or 2003, joining Capitol Lodge #3, where he served as Worshipful Master in 2013.

At about the same time he joined Capitol Lodge #3, he joined Tangier Shrine in Omaha. He has been active in the Masonic Camping Club and Shrine Greeters..

Fred served as High Priest in Omaha Chapter #1 Royal Arch Masons in 2014 and has been an active Royal Arch Mason.

Fred joined the Scottish Rite in April, 2009. and has been active as a member of the Culinary Masters.
